Rosemary arrived one day in May, 2023. I had a breeding date for her dam Rosetta but I didn't think she had settled so her due date wasn't on my radar. Rosetta easily hid her single doeling within her long, wide, capacious frame. I went out to the goat yard and I found the doeling standing next to Rosetta. At first I thought she was one of the other kids that had been born recently. She had to be at least 4-5 lbs. But, then I did a double take and realized, "Oh, she's a newbie." Rosemary's umbilical cord was black and dried out so she had been born the day prior. Luckily, it was May and warm out.
Rosetta, Rosemary's dam, has since returned to her breeder Alexis Bachrach of Redstone Dairy Goats. Although I was sad to let her go, sometimes you realize that a goat is not meant to make their home with you. However, I have Rosemary which makes me very happy. Rosemary has matured into a mini Rosetta, continuing the tradition of this strong dam line.
Of course, on the other side of the pedigree is Remy, the son of my heart goat Caprice. Enough said!
